Late nights painting ahead of exhibitions!

I love the lead upto an exhibition. This is what the viewer in a gallery does not see. The late nights the chaotic studio, the scale of the organisation and planning involved in hanging a series of works that have taken a year of your life.

Having painted for 30 years I feel calm now most of the time but my hair is now a little greyer.

Feeling the pressure! Lots of work still to do before the exhibition @canolfanebeneser222 opening on Friday 24th October.

I started my water lilly painting after a visit to The Orangerie to see Monet's beautiful works in a purpose built exhibition space for his work in Paris.

Oil on canvas and is the largest painting I have attempted to paint in a while.

However pleased with progress on this one so far!

There will be work from 5 other artists too. Please contact me for more information if you would like to attend the preview or visit the exhibition.

I have been involved in some brilliant projects and exhibitions over the years. Penysychnant has a very special ambiance it's dedicated to wildlife and conservation. As you approach you can hear the birdsong, the noise is incredible.

Just a small rock in a big ocean!

It's the first time I have used my beautiful gold oil paint in a while. Lots of progress with this painting today 🖌️🎨 of a view on Llyn peninsula looking towards Nefyn.

It's a place I love to swim in the summer. Beautiful crystal clear waters on a nice day with seagrass beds and lots of sea life.

A whole day in the studio... Complete bliss. Happy painting whilst listening to music. I hope to finish this in situ when the weather allows.

Earlier this year I was asked to paint in front of the camera by a very talented filmmaker @Felix Copestake who was making a film about Dorothea Quarry in North Wales.

Dorothea Quarry is a magical place to explore. Sometimes referred to as Wales Angkor Wat due to its wild overgrown ruins. It's magical light, green waters and beautiful wildlife make this place special.

A little reminder of why I love Wales so much yesterday! Climbing with new people, great views, beautiful weather and great rock. Inspiring to say the least. This time I wasn't bitten by an adder!🐍🪻🧗🥾🌿🌞🏔️

We could see for miles @tanygrisiau, boulderers were enjoying themselves as part of #hongianfestival below.

Routes were Kirkus direct route followed by slack on clogwyn yr oren.

I am delighted to be painting this oil of a beautiful White Rhinoceros or square lipped rhinoceros for this years @helpingrhinos auction later in the year!

The Northern White Rhino is now critically endangered and possibly extinct in the wild. @helpingrhinos they work to create rhino strongholds and protect rhinos in their natural habitat.

I will post the final painting soon but lots more work to do before varnushing and sending it to the framers.

It's seems like a long term ago since I first painted a White Rhino nearly 30 years ago @paigntonzoo

The painting of the left is a rather snowy painting of Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales.

The painting on the right is a painting of a view in the himalayas.

I have enjoyed painting both so far.

I haven't painted or attempted something big for a long time 🎨

The largest canvas i painted was 24ft x 16ft. As many of you will know, the larger the painting, the bigger the problems are to fix. For me, mistakes and problems are all part of the process of making art.

I don't use a projector or a grid system, i simply draw the image with paint and correct and alter as the painting evolves.

The aspect that i enjoy the most is the use of colour in art 🎨

I can't wait to show you my version of 'Crib Goch', one of my favourite mountains in my backyard in Snowdonia.

I am Rob and I studied @falmouthuni (Falmouth College of arts) and the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham where I received my Ba (Hons) in Fine Art. Subsequently i worked museums before jumping into life as a full time professional artist.

Kingfisher, oil on board.

It's taken many layers of brushwork to get to this stage and I am delighted it's nearly there! Inspired by trips to the @Spinnies in bangor and @wwtmartinmere

Usually you just see a flash of blue, but on this occasion, we were lucky enough to see kingfishers fishing right in front of the hide at both locations.
